You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

 • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

 • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

• If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

• Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/n CMSosurprises or call the California Department of Insurance at 1-800-927-4357.

 INSURANCES

Insurance and Payment Information

I strive to make therapy as accessible as possible and understand that navigating insurance can feel overwhelming. Choosing whether to use insurance for therapy is a personal decision, and it is important to weigh the benefits and potential drawbacks.

To use insurance, a mental health diagnosis is required for reimbursement of therapy fees. If you’re feeling unsure or would like to explore what receiving a diagnosis might mean for you, I’m here to help. We can talk through the pros and cons so you can make the choice that feels most aligned with your well-being and personal needs.

In-Network Insurance:

  • Blue Shield of CA (UC Berkeley Student Health Insurance Plan - SHIP):
If you are a UC Berkeley student, please contact the Tang Center to confirm my provider status, determine if authorization is required, and clarify any co-payment responsibilities:

    • Phone: (510) 642-2000

    • Email: telltang@berkeley.edu

  • Alameda Alliance Medi-Cal:
If you are covered through Alameda Alliance Medi-Cal, please contact Alameda County Behavioral Health Services to verify that I am in-network:

    • Phone: 1-800-491-9099

Out-of-Network Benefits:
If I am not in-network with your insurance, I can provide a Superbill for services rendered, which you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. While I do not bill out-of-network insurance directly, I recommend contacting your benefits administrator to understand your coverage. You may want to ask the following questions:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits, and if so, what percentage is reimbursed?

  • What is the procedure for reimbursement?

  • What is my deductible, and has it been met?

  • How much does my insurance cover for an out-of-network provider under CPT codes: 90791, 90837, or 90834?

  • Is a mental health diagnosis required for reimbursement?

Loveland Therapy Fund Vouchers:
I also accept vouchers through the Loveland Therapy Fund, which provides financial assistance to Black women and girls seeking therapy. For more information, please visit: Loveland Therapy Fund
